CRACOV UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY 80th ANNIVERSARY MURAL DESIGN COMPETITION
Mural v1.
Mural v2.
Mural v3.
The mural designs I have created present Tadeusz Kościuszko in a modern interpretation, blending the historical figure with a dynamic, technology-inspired aesthetic. Each of the three submitted concepts is based on the same visual idea—a monochromatic portrait of Kościuszko set against an abstract, geometric background. The rhythmic patterns, repetition, and structure of the background draw inspiration from contemporary architecture, urban planning, and new technologies.
These designs deliberately break away from traditional depictions of historical figures, offering a contrast to the expected interpretations in the competition. Rather than relying on direct symbolic references, the chosen style emphasizes the modern character of Cracow University of Technology—a forward-thinking institution focused on development and innovation. Here, Kościuszko is portrayed not only as a national hero but also as a symbol of progress and ingenuity, whose determination continues to inspire future generations.
Each concept varies in composition, figure placement, and a carefully selected vibrant color palette for the background. The bold colors contrast sharply with the monochromatic portrait, creating a striking visual effect and reinforcing the energy drawn both from Kościuszko’s legacy and the very essence of a modern university.
The entire project is a conscious aesthetic choice—an exploration of a unique visual language that bridges history with modernity. Through rhythmic, repetitive geometric patterns that echo the order and logic of technology, the mural becomes not just a tribute to the past but a symbol of the future that the academic community of Cracow University of Technology continuously strives toward.
